Coastal gives every player a land base with significant water access along one edge. Fishing economy is important but the game is decided on land. Hybrid civs with strong fishing bonuses and solid land play dominate. Ignoring water puts you at an eco disadvantage. Expect a mix of dock play and standard land engagements.
